It appears that Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo meeting on the sets of 'Descendants of the Sun' did not happen just by chance. Another industry professional was responsible for the two sharing screen space in the hit drama, eventually falling in love with each other in real life. That someone is actor Jo In-sung.
As noted by website Soompi, on July 10, the marriage of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo was discussed on Channel A's 'Heard It Through the Grapevine.' One of the panellists in the show revealed that the SongSong couple had first met in the year 2013, through actor Jo In-sung.
To this information, another panellist added, "Many actors, such as Jo In-sung, Kim Woo-bin, Lee Min-ho, and Kang Dong-won, were in talks for the role of Yoo Si-jin in 'Descendants of the Sun.' However, most of them had to turn it down because the drama was being pre-produced and filmed overseas. Jo In-sung then recommended Song Joong-ki to the production staff."
Song Hye-kyo had worked with Jo In-sung in 'That Winter, the Wind Blows.' Jo In-sung first met with Song Joong-ki in 2008, on the sets of 'A Frozen Flower' and remained good friends ever since. He also appeared in 'Running Man,' where Song Joong-ki was a regular member from episode 1 to 41. Lee Kwang-soo is a common friend.
It seems like Song Joong-ki was fated to meet Song Hye-kyo all along and Jo In-sung acted as an agency, helping them meet. The rest as they say, is Hallyu history. Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo began as colleagues, became good friends, fell in love and then, in Japan, Joong-ki proposed to his lady love. Their wedding date has been set for October 31, this year.
Recently, as noted by Soompi, the filming director of 'Descendants of the Sun,' Kim Shi-hyung talked about his two lead actors, in an interview with KBS2's 'Entertainment Weekly,' that aired on July 7. "They became much closer during the latter half [of filming] compared to the beginning. In the beginning, they were just friendly as work colleagues who had a senior-junior relationship," the director said.
He added, "We did try to film as comfortably as possibly, so that they could become closer. However, I never imagined that they would develop into a couple." Most fans were surprised by the wedding announcement on July 5, even though most had strongly suspected and hoped that was the case. The surprise had more to do with the fact that the couple announced they were getting married, without any prior announcement of dating.
Meanwhile, Song joong-ki's agency Blossom Entertainment also revealed on July 11 that the actor was not appearing in the new movie 'Ro Ki Wan,' in the lead role. In fact his next project hadn't been confirmed yet. Blossom Entertainment also added that the actor has been considering various projects that have been offered to him, at the moment.
