Girls' Generation member Taeyeon has written a message for SHINee member Jonghyun who committed suicide on Dec. 18 due to severe depression.
Taeyeon was featured in Jonghyun's song "Lonely," which topped music charts following his death.
"That was you, and if another you existed, everyone will still love you. I want to like you, love you, and encourage you. I want to hug you once more. That's what I could've done but I hate myself for regretting like this after losing my chance," Taeyeon wrote in an Instagram post.
She added, "Our unfortunate, precious Jonghyun. Our Jonghyun, who I feel like will answer Yes! in a high tone if I call right now on the phone, I miss you so much. I'm sorry I didn't embrace you enough. I love you and thank you."
Taeyeon said Jonghyun told him that he "wrote 'Lonely' with me in your thoughts. We are very similar and alike. We know those feelings. Kim Jonghyun, the most special, cool, fantastic artist in my life, I miss you so much and I want to hold your hand."
"Jonghyun-ah, you are the best. You worked so hard. I will make sure you're not lonely," she ended.
Jonghyun's colleagues and fans are mourning about his loss. Several artists have delayed their events with respect to his death.
EXO, a group under SM Entertainment, will release their winter album "Universe" on Dec. 26 instead of Dec. 21, which is Jonghyun's funeral.
TWICE rescheduled the release of their "Merry & Happy" music video to Friday instead of Thursday. Seventeen also halted their weekly YouTube video series.
In his suicide note that he gave to a friend, Jonghyun wrote that "I was broken from the inside. The depression slowly chipped me away, finally devouring me. I could not beat the negativity. I hated myself. Even though I tried so hard demanding my memories that kept getting cut off to 'wake up,' all I got in return was silence."
