Juan Martín del Potro is on his dream run to win his second US Open title, as he defeated Roger Federer on 7 September at Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will serve against the Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.
2009 US Open champion looked determined when he took the first set by 7-5. After taking the second set by 6-3, the Swiss legend had tried to shape the match according to him. But the Argentine did not give him the chance to change the game mode and took next two games by 7-6, 6-4 to seal the match.
"I played my best match of the tournament, I did everything well," Del Potro said after the match to ESPN
"I served well and hit my forehand as hard as I can. We played a great match and I think I deserved to win in the end."
"I can't believe I will play in the semi-finals against after all my injuries, after all my surgeries. Especially to play here in New York, my favorite tournament," He said.
Although the No. 3 seed Federer triumphed in 2017 Australian Open and Wimbledon, the Argentine has failed to shine on the court earlier in this season. Del Potro was featured in Delray Beach, Acapulco, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Masters, Estoril, Rome Masters, Lyon, French Open, Wimbledon, Washington, Canadian Masters and Cincinnati Masters.
However, in a head to head count Del Potro has won five matches against the No. 1 seed Nadal but the Spaniard bagged eight match-points. It is sure that the tennis world is eagerly waiting for a historic match to witness.
