Overview

Vietnam host Indonesia in an international friendly at the My Dinh National Stadium on 8 November. The two teams are in their final stages of the preparation for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup, starting 19 November. Notably, Vietnam and Indonesia are drawn in different groups at the Asean tournament.

The hosts have a lot to play for in the upcoming eight-team tournament as they would want to consolidate on their recent form. The Golden Stars came up with a top-notch performance to beat higher-ranked North Korea 5-2 in October.

Vietnam put on a determined show against the vastly experienced Korean unit as they had come from behind after conceding the first goal. Midfielders Nguyen Tuan Anh and Luong Xuan Trong were at the top of their game to overpower their opponents.

With a settled attacking and midfield unit, which is hungry and creative, Vietnamese are serious contender for the Suzuki Cup title. They have not lost a game since their 2018 Fifa World Cup Qualifier loss to Iraq earlier this year and have stitched a five-game unbeaten record.

They also had a two-week training camp in South Korea, in which they went on to defeat five-time K.League champions FC Seoul. Ahead of their last competitive match before they travel to Myanmar for their Suzuki Cup campaign, coach Nguyen Huu Thang would want to arrive at a settled combination.

On the other hand, Indonesia who have done well after they came back from Fifa suspension earlier this year, are looking to make a strong impact in the Suzuki Cup. Notably they held Vietnam to a 2-2 draw at home in October.

Coach Alfred Riedl is reportedly optimistic about his team's chances in the Asean tournament after their comfortable 3-0 win against Malaysia in September. However, he is aware of the quality of their Tuesday's opposition but said his team is motivated to come up with a good show.
