The year 2016 was tumultuous and eventful across much of the world. Be it the EU referendum, the US election, the migrant crisis, the terror attacks in Nice and Brussels and the battles for Sirte, Aleppo and Mosul, it has showed all possible sorts of highs and lows. There were a few seismic shifts in politics, with the resignation of prime ministers David Cameron of Britain and Matteo Renzi of Italy.
Hundreds of people were killed in deadly attacks in Brussels, Istanbul, Nice and Bangladesh carried out by the Islamic State (Isis/Daesh), while hundreds more died in a failed coup attempt in Turkey, the repercussions of which continue to be felt five months later.
Double earthquakes shook Italy, destroying churches and historic buildings and leaving nearly 300 people dead. Apart from Italy, Indonesia, New Zealand and a few other places also witnessed catastrophe caused by several earthquakes.
