Houston Police released security camera footage of an armed carjacking on October 16. The video shows four people leaving their vehicle and approaching a minivan, before one of them opened fire on the street and another pulled a woman and her 11-month-old niece out of the vehicle.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has unexpectedly assigned a top federal hate crimes lawyer to prosecute a man on trial for the shooting death of gender-fluid teen Kedarie Johnson. Johnson, 16, was killed in an alley in Burlington, Iowa, in March 2016. Jorge Sanders-Galvez, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder in Johnsons death. Johnson identified as both male and female and sometimes went by the name Kandicee. Sessions, a staunch conservative, is known for battling against LGBTQ rights.
Tensions are mounting between two US backed military forces on the ground in Iraq. Iraqi military forces assaulted an oil field in Kurdish-controlled Kirkuk. This further complicates the fight against the Islamic State (Isis). The Iran-backed militia and the Kurdish forces have a common enemy in the Islamic State. And while the US supports both groups mission to eradicate Isis in the Middle East, Kurdish military officials claimed Iran-backed militias armed with US equipment took part in the attack.

Police in Allen Park, Michigan, charged Earl Joseph Larche, 37, with carjacking on Saturday (15 October) over an incident caught on camera at a BP gas station. The gas stations security camera shows a man jumping into a womans car and drive away while she is pumping gas on Oct. 12, 2017. The woman jumped into the passenger side door and the attempted hijacker fled after a truck driver pulled him from the car.
Two men have been convicted of conducting random chemical attacks and violent robberies in London. Sadik Kamara, 24, and Joshua Gordon, 20, were both found guilty of applying a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, main, disfigure or do grievous bodily harm at Wood Green Crown Court on 10 October. The Met Police have released shocking CCTV footage of one of the incidents, where a gang including Kamara and Gordon entered a supermarket in Hackney, and sprayed the shopkeeper with ammonia three times in the face, before stamping on her. The pair will be sentenced on 17 November.
