According to Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in Sonpark, South Africa, the calf who was taken in on June 19 is doing well and continues to improve as each day goes by. She seems to have formed a particular bond with one carer, who is seen here serenading the young rhino to sleep with his guitar.

Chris Wheeler, the headmaster of Monkton, surprised pupils and parents alike when he broke into song part way through his speech. Channelling his inner Jean Valjean, Mr Wheeler began singing One More Day from Les Misérables, before other teachers popped up from around the room to sing different parts of the song. A number of pupils were also in on the secretly planned performance.

According to WNCN, a fisherman was attempting to reel in the 6ft-long shark near Johnnie Mercer Pier on the evening of June 29. Two other men venture into the sea to help reel in his catch. But when one of the men tried to grab the shark and amp;#39;s fin, the animal whipped around and bit his lower arm. Further footage and pictures, uploaded to Facebook the following day, showed people trying to release the shark after it had been pulled to the beach.

Dramatic footage released by Spanish Police shows the moment a man was rescued after being held captive for two weeks by an eastern European crime gang.The man, a Serbian-Croatian who holds Dutch nationality and whose identity was not immediately available, was abducted by a group of men wearing fake police vests in mid-June as he was driving home in the Catalonian town of Lloret de Mar.The mans family had received a ransom demand of 1.5 million euros after the kidnapping, police said. Although the exact date of the rescue operation is not known, police confirmed it took place in the town of Casarrubios del Monte, near Toledo.

Failings in Jerseys child care system led to significant numbers suffering abuse

An inquiry into historic child abuse on the island of Jersey found a catalogue of failures in its care system spanning several decades, according to findings published in a report on Monday (July 3).The inquiry, led by Frances Oldham QC, heard 553 offences took place between 1947 and 2004. More than half of them are said to have happened at the former childrens care home, Haut de la Garenne. The report has recommended demolishing the building to eradicate its unhappy past.

Beijing slams Indian border troops crossing into Chinese territory as very serious

China has accused Indian border forces of allegedly crossing into its territory. It described the border incursion near North Indian state of Sikkim as very serious and slammed New Delhi of violating a convention signed in 1890 between Britain and China relating to Sikkim and Tibet.The cross-border tensions rapidly escalated in recent days due to a road construction by China, which both India and Bhutan oppose. It resulted in India and China reportedly deploying thousands of troops in frontier positions. The last time the two countries engaged militarily in Sikkim was in 1967.
